Is "Metabolic Syndrome" due to "Circumstancs" That are Totally

~~The majority of patients I treat either in my Cleanse Programs or in my Advanced Weight Loss Program have multiple or all of the components of Metabolic Syndrome. As you may recall from many of articles that I have written and seminars that I have held in the past, Metabolic Syndrome is a multi-component condition comprised of the following conditions: Hypertension (high blood pressure), Hyperglycemia (high blood sugar levels), Hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol), and Obesity.
Many patients find themselves in a difficult situation of a downward spiraling life-style which leads them to the point where they finally decide to do something about their condition and contact my office. The question is why do they get to this point? I think that we can all agree that there are many issues that can drive them to this point. One being stress. Certainly the "stress-filled culture" in which we live causes us to "Eat Wrong," Move Wrong, "Think Wrong," and "Sleep Wrong!" An individual may begin eating fast food because it is more "convenient" and truly believe that it "won't continue," but it does. He or she may begin to get to bed later or get up earlier so that they can "get a little more done." There may be more alcohol consumption that begins to "help take the edge off of the day." As those of you who have watched my "Stress and How It's Killing You" DVD know, the physiological changes that occur due to chronic stress can cause all of the components of "Metabolic Syndrome."
But I have also wondered what other things that may be completely out of our control may contribute to the four components of Metabolic Syndrome that I have outlined above. It appears that in doing my research I have found at least one.
Findings published in a study in the Journal of Proteome Research indicate that infants who were fed formula rather than good old fashioned Mom's Breast Milk "experienced metabolic stress that could play a part in the long-recognized link between formula-feeding and an increased risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes and other conditions in adult life." Lead researcher Carolyn Slupsky states that, "Our findings support the contention that infant feeding practice profoundly influences metabolism in developing infants and may be the link between early feeding and the development of metabolic disease later in life."
While I will admit that some of the components of this induced state of "physiologic change," as concurrent alterations which are made by the body in an attempt to compensate for the "external and internal stressors" that induce the "physiologic change" are certainly within our control, unfortunately some of the initiators of this change may be induced long before we have any control over them. This also applies to the way we are raised, and the things that we are taught to do on a daily basis before we are even out of diapers. Things like a sedentary lifestyle, and the food choices that we make are often "pre-set" from a very early age.
In spite of all of this early developmental pre-programming, you must recognize that you are "still in charge of your destiny." In other words, it is never too late to initiate the change that will drive your physiology back toward its natural "set point" by incorporating a more "genetically congruent" life-style. Granted, this may not be an easy switch and will require a few things. You will need a system, a teacher, and a coach.
For those of you out there who are ready to make the change, please consider my "Advanced Weight Loss Program." I am witnessing such amazing, life-altering changes occurring in those who make the "leap" and move forward with the positive changes that I will walk you through and support you with. It creates more and more of a passion in me to see that our team here can assist as many patients as want our help to move down the path of "Health and Wellness."
