HEALTH NOTES
Why Nutritional Support is Necessary
PART III
We have discussed so far in my last two articles the difference between synthetic and whole food vitamins and proper nutrition; let’s continue this week with foods we should all avoid.
Soda is an example, of one of the biggest offenders relative to its high sugar content. If you would simply replace the soda that you take in on a daily basis with high quality water, this would reduce your potential to develop diabetes and obesity.
These are simple things that we can all do on a daily basis to aid our daily nutritional intake. I trust that you can see that by consuming foods such soda, french fries, white breads, and other forms of potatoes, day in and day out, not only do you not receive proper vitamin and mineral nutrition, but you are also receiving an extremely high glycemic food intake which is converted rapidly into sugars in your body. Unfortunately, your body can not utilize all of these sugars and puts your pancreas into an extreme overload, producing insulin to bring down your blood sugar level. This causes excess sugar, or glucose, in your body to be stored as fat, particularly around the abdomen, creating what is now called the “metabolic syndrome,” where we develop extreme obesity in the abdomen and lower torso.
Utilizing nutritional supplements which are whole food supplements and not synthetic supplements gives us all the components of specific vitamins that are required by our bodies.
Since, as I stated in the beginning of this article, our foods today are being grown in nutritionally depleted soils and therefore do not contain sufficient quantities of vitamins and minerals, it is a necessity to supplement in many instances. However, the quality of those supplements is extremely important.
Proper guidance in utilizing nutritional supplements is extremely important. Therapeutic use of vitamins and/or herbs must be monitored and supervised by a knowledgeable health care professional. By that, I do not mean a kid working in the pharmacy or health food store or someone whose credentials may be questionable, working in a health food store, giving you advice relative to supplementation and nutrition, in general.
You must be conscious of the fact that your body is your responsibility. Therefore, knowledge is power in caring for your body, and you must explore further the information I bring to you in this particular article.
I will go into more detail in future articles regarding this subject. I only wish to wet your appetite with some of these concepts. In this way I can ease you into this information. I feel this information may be extremely new to some of you and you may have to slightly change the way you think regarding foods and nutritional supplementation, particularly synthetic vs. whole food supplements.
I look forward to bringing you more information about this in the future. Visit our website for other articles regarding various health care subjects at www.upchiropractic.com.
