Little By Little You Will Get There

~~Years ago I knew someone who used this statement routinely. He used to say "Little By, Little By We Will Get the Job Done." I have remembered that statement for all of these years, and attempted to apply it to every task that I have undertaken. I see this in action with patients every day in both of my practices. You see regaining your Health does not occur in nanoseconds. In our "I want it now" society we need to always remember that the body doesn't heal at our rate. It heals at its rate. This mind set is often influenced not only by our current culture, but also by the fact that medicine is always doing two things.

The first thing is that the medical community is always trying to "out-think" the body. Our current medical system is based on doing to the body what is thought to be the best for the body. This philosophy revolves around the lack of faith in our medical community that the body is what is doing the healing. For example, if you were to break your leg the fracture may need to be set, and cast, but the healing is done by the body. The same thing applies to post-surgical healing. The body is the thing that generates the healing. The healing can certainly be enhanced with proper nutrition and supplementation, but it is the body that "heals itself". So that is lesson one to remember. The body does the healing, and it does it on its own time frame, certainly not ours.

The second fallacy of our currently flawed medical system is the belief that more is better. In other words the "Maximum Strength Philosophy". This too is not necessarily the case in many instances. It also ties in with our first flawed belief. The hypothesis of Allopathic Medicine today is that "More" makes the job go "Faster". Certainly the More concept is counter to many other healthcare philosophies such as that of "Homeopathic Medicine", which teaches that you want to use the lowest dose of a remedy that gives the desired result.

I still believe that the better philosophy is the one espoused by my childhood mentor who advocated the "Little By, Little By Philosophy". The reason is because that is the way the body works. You will demonstrate and witness the Greatest changes in your body by practicing the patience philosophy of just letting your body heal at its own rate rather than trying to force the body to make the changes that you, or your doctor deems necessary.

So if you take nothing else away from this little blurb that I have delivered to you today, I trust that the words of the Greek Poet Hesiod will make my case for me; "If you add a little to a little and do this often, soon that little will become great."

Keep on the path that you have chosen. The less traveled path of true Health and Wellness, and "Little By, Little By You Will Get There.
