Move Right or Perhaps to Much!

~~
Today it seems to me that so many people are fixated on exercise. Now don't get me wrong, this can be a good thing. But, someone once told me that; "Too much of a good thing can be bad". That statement has stuck with me for years. You see we all need to practice our "Move Right", but this term incorporates many different aspects of overall Health and Wellness than just running to the gym three times a week and exercising incessantly for an hour and then running off to complete all of the other tasks that you have on your list for that day.

What prompted me to write this article was an incident at an event that I attended recently. Each year our local YMCA has its annual 5-K Run. I have attended this event since its inception about 15 years ago. I enjoy "meeting and greeting" folks in our community, many of whom I know, or are patients of mine already, and many who I come to know through this event. At any rate, I see runners of all shapes and sizes in varying states of health who are all set on crossing the finish line before their friends and neighbors.

During this year's event I was busy as always teaching those curious participants who stopped by our booth to learn more about how we may be able to help them with their health concerns. As the race came to a close runners began mulling around conversing. One of the runners came over to our booth and informed us that one of the female runners had experienced a heart attack during the run, and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. This started me thinking about a number of aspects of this scenario.

The first thing that came to mind was the obvious question; "Did this woman have any prior history of problems which may have lead up to this final outcome?" The next question was; "What was the state of this woman's overall conditioning and her level of Health and Wellness prior to the race?"

Ultimately the question that we need to ask is; "Did she practice the other three "Pillars of Health" as well, or in this case perhaps, "as poorly" as she may have practiced her "Move Right"?

This is a question that we all need to ask ourselves. You see, what I see is that the majority of the population tends to practice one or two of the "Pillars", but generally not all four. It seems that most of those who I have observed tend to understand and attempt to practice the "Move Right" Pillar, and are at least aware of the "Eat Right" Pillar as well. The problem is that they seem to think that all of the components are independent of one another. But you see they simply are not. Each one of the "Four Pillars of Health" is interdependent on the others. You simply cannot peel off one, or two and expect to be healthy. That is why I teach them all together in my book, and in all of my seminars. You must practice and improve upon your "Eat Right, Think Right, Move Right, and Sleep Right" each and every day. Some days you will be a little deficient in one or two, but you must continue to persevere, and attempt to improve each and every day, week, month, and year. So that in time as the years pass you will become healthier and healthier.

For those of you who have been to my Focus Health Seminar Series that I am currently in the midst of in East Greenville, PA at the Open Link, I hope that you will be able to join us for my next installment which is the "Move Right" session. You can register for this seminar by clicking here. The seminar will be held on September 17. Open Link Center's address is: 517 Jefferson Street, East Greenville, PA for those of you who wish to join us.

Let's all focus on practicing all four of the "Pillars of Health" each and every day this year. I know that by doing this you will all end this year healthier than you started it.
