We Are Here For You!

~~
I have to say that being a caregiver/doctor/physician/healer/healthcare provider, or whatever term that you choose to use, has changed a great deal over the last 30 years. In some ways those changes have been good in my opinion. Other changes that have occurred have not been so good, once again in my opinion. As an example years ago when you had a "family doctor", as we used to call them, you had him or her for life. You could get a hold of your doctor any time of the day or night that you needed to speak, or perhaps had a child with a fever at midnight. Today you simply get a prompt to leave a message for a prescription refill, or to schedule an appointment, or to have a call back from the nurse. The other change is that rarely do you have the same doctor for life. He or she may move, or due to our fluid society today, you may move multiple times in your working career. The big change today is that your insurance may change, and if your doctor is not in your "network" (another term that we also didn't have 30 years ago) you have to "find a new doctor". Your doctor can change as frequently as your underwear today.

My point is this, the role of the old "family doc" is being filled more and more today by "practitioners" (there's another term I forgot above) like myself. All the more reason that those of us who choose to remain in the "portal of entry" (another fancy new term meaning you can come for care in our office without a referral), "primary care" (meaning the first point of contact for your healthcare) role must stay abreast of the latest in our respective fields. And that is also why I often spend my weekends in classes learning more to help more.

The concept for this article came to mind for me over the last two weekends while I was sitting in classes in Harrisburg, and Philadelphia on consecutive weekends. On the first weekend I was learning the latest about "auto-immune conditions". On the following weekend I sat in classes for my second two day stretch (that would be a total of 24 hours on two weekends. This time I was learning the newest research on laboratory blood tests and nutrition.

You see this is the commitment that I have to what we do here. I want to make sure that we are staying abreast of the latest research and cutting edge therapies, so that we can bring them to our patients. We do this in order to help as many in need that we possibly can. This is also why this year I will be bringing more of those cutting edge treatments and therapies to you, in order to help more in more ways. I will be describing to you in more detail what these new treatments and therapies are in coming months. Some of these will have ongoing research studies affiliated with them. Some will be new technologies which have shown through referenced research studies that they have efficacy to treat old conditions in new, less invasive ways.

I am looking forward to bringing our patients new approaches to treat them in ways that are often more effective, in less time and in a way that will truly promote the health and wellness of our patients.

That my friends is why I titled this article the way I did, because we truly are "Here for You!"
